BISONS IN WILD WEST
This stunning documentary takes you to the vast expanse of the Great Plains. This prairie landscape is located east of the Rocky Mountains. It was once home of the American bison.
But the majestic animals were pushed further and further by the settlers coming from the east. They had almost been exterminated.
The DVD «BISONS IN WILD WEST» tells the story of the almost extinction of these majestic animals and the efforts now being made to resettle them in their original habitat. The film is at the same time a historical documentary about the Wild West with impressive archival recordings that raises awareness for the situation of endangered species and at the same time an animal documentation with wonderfully presented current shots. The interviews feature numerous different characters: scientists, ranchers, animal rights activists and local politicians. Thus, the subject is controversially viewed from various angles.
It soon becomes clear that this documentation is much more than only telling the story about an almost extinct animal. The American Bison and its history have an enormous symbolic power for the Middle West of the USA. It is no accident that the former President Barack Obama appointed the Bison in 2016 as a second national animal, next to the bald eagle.
Especially for us Europeans, this documentation offers a unique and deep insight focussing on the history and the people of the Middle West.
